When a Guesstimate isn’t your Mate.

One of the most thrilling parts of our working day at Urban Gutters is receiving a phone call, text or email from a new customer. Taking down details and booking in an appointment where we get yet another opportunity to provide a top level service to a Sydney or Canberra resident. Once all the information has been received and a date and time is booked, a common question asked before we say our goodbyes is, “Do you have an estimate of the cost?”

The short answer to this is - No, we don’t.

The more comprehensive answer is - Let us come around and give you a free, fully detailed, no obligation quote! It won’t cost you anything and you don’t have to go ahead if you don’t want to. You can’t go wrong!

The task of gutter vacuuming has wide range of variants. Naturally, the size of a property does have a bearing, but there are so many more factors.

We will begin with access. Gaining access to the roof and gutter system can differ hugely from house to house. For example, a property may take up a relatively smaller square area, but the tiles on the roof may be fragile. This would probably mean that climbing up and cleaning with the use of an harness system and temporary anchor point would be impossible. Therefore, it may be a matter of carrying out the vacuum clean from off of a ladder and moving it around the entire perimeter of the building. Alternatively, we could use our pole-reach system.

A common addition that many have, particularly in heavily tree lined areas, is gutter guard. As effective as it is, debris can still slip into the gutter and this means that we will need to unscrew and remove it to carry out a thorough clean, re-fitting it upon completion. As you can imagine, this is time consuming and can make the job more demanding.

Another issue is knowing how many gutters the property has. Many modern builds contain box gutters that are out of site from ground level, therefore we would have an accurate idea once we have carried out a full inspection. In some cases, the bigger buildings have fewer gutters than one would guess, so estimating based on the size of a large house would be unreliable.

A major factor is the key reason that we are asked to visit in the first place -  The actual amount of debris contained on the roof and in the gutters. Size of property, roof design, tile type and access are all things to be kept in mind. But the amount of debris and it’s condition is what is going to truly define how big a job its going to be. Dry leaves, mud, sticks, and seeds all require different techniques to carry out a thorough job. In addition to solely gutter vacuuming, it may be a matter of doing it the old fashioned way and cleaning the gutters and roof by scooping whatever is there and putting it into bags, following that up with vacuuming whatever remains.

Ultimately, the best way to provide a thorough and accurate quote is to visit the property in person and see it with our own eyes. This is carried out using our comprehensive safety initiatives and is of course free with no obligation.
